I Can’t Make You
By: Monica Renata
I am great in my own right
Yet not everyone can see
But my words mean nothing to others
Who won’t let me be me
But the wait for me to express myself
Is like a predetermined defeat
My thoughts you want me to voice
But my words aren’t the words you want them to be
To say that I am fine
That is just a big fat lie
But the words that are true to my heart
Those are the words you will deny
To say I should express myself
To say I should be me
Yet you won’t listen to a word I say
Yet you say “Your words may influence me”…
But alas I know the reality
And it isn’t that hard to predict
I can’t change someone’s way of thinking
Especially when it is my words they choose to omit
So in my months of trying
I have to just let go
Let go of my foolish attempts
And realize what I should already know
I can’t make you do anything
That you don’t wish to do
So instead I shall sit there quietly
Waiting for a breakthrough
I can’t make you listen to me
Even though it matters much
So instead I shall keep my thoughts contained
While you reach out for my touch
I can’t make you understand how I feel
Because that isn’t what you want to do
But I can’t keep going through the same thing
I can’t take this torture I have been through……….
I am great in my own right
Yet not everyone can see
But my words mean nothing to others
Who won’t let me be me
But the wait for me to express myself
Is like a predetermined defeat
My thoughts you want me to voice
But my words aren’t the words you want them to be
So instead I shall just sit quietly
And not whisper a peep
I always knew some people wouldn’t accept me
But I never thought it would be you who wouldn’t let me be me
“Sometimes the ones we care about the most are the ones who really don’t care about how we feel. At times, some people become selfish and only acknowledge their feelings while neglecting yours….. Don’t let situations such as these bother you. Surround yourself with those who appreciate you for who you are and accept you completely” – Monica Renata
