If You Want Me
By: Monica Renata
To get to know a person
To find out where their thoughts lie
Is the hardest thing to do in this world
Since we judge with our eyes
To see me and have an interest sparked
That is a flattering thing indeed
But I want you to see more of me
See what your eyes can’t see
If you want me for my beauty
I suggest you walk the other way
For there is more to me
Than what you see today
If you want me for my beautiful eyes
Don’t blame me if they so do hide
For those eyes you say are beautiful today
May be the ones you soon make cry
Flesh seems to rule the world
Flesh is all you see
But I want you to look deeper
I want you to see me
For I am clothed in doubt
But your words could perhaps disrobe me
Just saying “I’m pretty” makes me pout
Because it proves that you still don’t know ME
Admire my beautiful mind
Not the flesh that soon will fade
Speak to my soul and touch it
For that touch will be more intense than the touch of my skin
I want you to want me for what you see inside
I want you to want me for my heart
For if you want me for what you see on the outside
That means you didn’t want me from the start
