Golden as the autumn corn
Valued by all who speak
A few of life’s little words
So treasured by you and me
To be nice is a given
To respect others, we shall at least
But those words are lost in translation
As the journey of life peaks
At the tender moments of our youth
We are taught the golden run
Treat others how we wish to be treated
We are drilled this all through grade school
Those years when we are so innocent
We believe it with all our heart
With smother others in kindness
Because this is what we want also
But as life starts on an upward path
And life at times get rough
We no longer think about everyone else
We think about just us
And in those moments of selfishness
We believe that happiness is only entitled to us
So we manipulate words we speak to others
And make our actions not add up
We would never want to be treated this way
But it is okay to do to others
String someone’s feelings along for months
When in actuality with them we don’t want to be bothered
We hurt people daily
We speak so many unkind words
Then when our feelings get hurt
We speak of that golden combination of words…
Treat others how you wish to be treated
Treat me with kindness and respect
We ask for this in times of hurt
Yet during other times we forget
But life comes full circle
All of your actions you will once again meet
For kindness that you put out in the world
Will be returned in times of need
So stop being so selfish
Start living by the words of gold
Everyone needs a little help every now and then
For everyone in life isn’t your foe
